Verkada access control
Doors and cameras that know about each other — and a site you can secure from a phone in seconds.

The door event and the footage in one place
Most access systems tell you a door was forced. This one shows you.
- One console. A door held open, a badge refused, a forced door — each arrives with the clip of it, so you are looking at what happened rather than reading a log.
- Lockdown from a phone. Emergency Scenarios follow the Standard Response Protocol: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter.
- Credentials that survive real users. Cards, fobs, PIN, mobile credentials and Apple Wallet — and a lost phone is revoked centrally in seconds.
- It grows without a controller cupboard. One, four or sixteen doors per controller, added a door at a time.
Controllers and readers
Named so you can compare a quotation properly.
| Device | What it is | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| AC12 | Single-door controller | The unit for one entrance or a small extension |
| AC43 | Four-door controller | The usual choice for a school block |
| AC62 | Sixteen-door controller | Larger sites and central plant rooms |
| AX11 | I/O controller | Gates, barriers and interfaces to other systems |
| AD34 / AD64 | Door readers | AD64 adds a keypad for PIN or two-factor |
| AF64 | Access station | Where a reader is not enough |
What actually happens when you trigger it
This is the capability schools ask about most, so here is the mechanism rather than the marketing.
You define the scenarios
For each of Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter you decide which doors lock, which unlock, and who is notified. A scenario can notify without touching a door at all.
Five ways to trigger it
Verkada Command in a browser, the Command mobile app, the Verkada Pass app, a wired button at reception, or the API.
It takes effect in seconds
Verkada states scenarios take effect within seconds when triggered from a wired button or from Pass.
Releasing it is deliberate
Lockdowns are released from the same places, and every trigger and release is logged with who did it and when.
Locking doors is a fire-safety decision
More important than anything else on this page.
Any locking arrangement has to work with your fire strategy and your means of escape. Fail-safe and fail-secure behaviour, emergency door releases, the green break-glass, releasing locks on fire alarm activation, and the doors that must never be locked in the direction of escape — these are the design, not the details.
A lockdown requirement and a fire evacuation requirement can point in opposite directions on the same door, and resolving that needs someone who understands both, working with your fire risk assessor. It is a large part of why this work belongs with an electrical contractor that also installs fire systems.
If a supplier proposes locking arrangements without asking about your fire strategy, stop.

Fitted properly, and certified
Our own engineers do the containment, the cable, the power and the terminations, and the electrical work sits under the group’s NICEIC approval.
- No subcontractors. The people who survey are the people who install.
- Fire interface designed in. Locks release on fire alarm activation, agreed with your assessor.
- Certified. Electrical work certified through The Specialist Electrical Group.
- Documented. As-fitted records and a door schedule you can actually use.
Questions we get asked
Can we lock down from a phone if we are not on site?
Will it work with our existing doors?
What about the fire alarm?
Where these facts come from
Every capability on this page is taken from Verkada’s own current documentation, and the sources are listed at the foot of the page. Where we could not verify something we have left it out rather than repeat it from a brochure. SEG Core Ltd is a Verkada Gold Partner and reseller; SEGsafe is not affiliated with or operated by Verkada Inc.
