Guest and visitor management
Knowing who is in the building — which is a safeguarding answer and a fire roll-call answer at the same time.

Safeguarding at the desk, and a list at the assembly point
Most schools have a paper book, and most paper books are wrong by mid-morning.
- Sign-in with a photograph. A badge printed with the visitor's name and photo, so a lanyard means something.
- Host notified. The person being visited knows they have arrived without reception ringing round.
- Screening before entry. Questions and watch lists, applied consistently rather than depending on who is on the desk.
- A live list. Who is on site right now, exportable at the assembly point — which is the moment the paper book fails.
The details that matter
Contractors
The group most likely to be on site unaccompanied and least likely to be in the fire roll call.
Supply staff
Frequent, unfamiliar, and needing the right level of access for one day.
Parents and governors
A sign-in that is quick enough not to cause a queue at 8.45.
Incident Response
Verkada's roll-call and reunification tool builds on Guest, and requires it. Worth knowing if reunification matters to you.
What you need for it to work
- An iPad at each reception point, and a label printer — Verkada lists specific supported models.
- A decision about what you ask visitors, taken with your DSL.
- A decision about photographs: taking them is a data-protection choice, and it belongs in your privacy notice.
- A plan for what happens when the network is down and somebody still has to sign in.
- Retention: how long visitor records are kept, and who can see them.
- Somebody who owns it. A visitor system without an owner reverts to a paper book within a term.

Where these facts come from
Every capability on this page is taken from Verkada’s own current documentation, and the sources are listed at the foot of the page. Where we could not verify something we have left it out rather than repeat it from a brochure. SEG Core Ltd is a Verkada Gold Partner and reseller; SEGsafe is not affiliated with or operated by Verkada Inc.
