Verkada Command

One login across every device and every site — and permissions that genuinely restrict who can see what.

Why it matters

The console is the product

The hardware is good. The reason a trust or a hotel group buys the platform is this.

  • Every site in one place. A trust running fourteen schools opens one browser rather than fourteen recorders.
  • Roles that mean something. The site team sees the site. The head sees the school. The DPO sees the audit log. Nobody sees everything by default.
  • It logs who looked. Every view, export and change is recorded, which is the answer to the question a DPO will eventually ask.
  • Single sign-on. Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, with SCIM provisioning — so a leaver loses access when HR removes them, not when somebody remembers.
Access control

Getting permissions right on day one

In our experience this is where deployments succeed or quietly fail.

Start restrictive

It is far easier to grant access than to explain why somebody had it.

Separate viewing from exporting

Plenty of staff need to look. Very few need to take a copy away.

Named accounts only

A shared login destroys the audit trail, which is the thing that protects you.

Review it termly

Staff change. A permissions list nobody reviews is a list that is wrong within a year.

What we set up at handover

Not just a password

  • Named accounts for every user who needs one, with roles agreed in advance.
  • Site and device groupings that match how you actually work, not how the hardware is wired.
  • Alert recipients per alert type, so the right person hears about the right thing.
  • SSO configured with your identity provider where you have one.
  • A short written guide for the people who will use it weekly.
  • A review date in the diary, because none of this stays correct on its own.
FAQ

Questions we get asked

Does everyone need a licence?
No. Licences are per device, and Verkada states an unlimited number of users. That is unusual and it is genuinely useful for a trust.
What happens when a licence expires?
Devices keep recording, but Command access is restricted after a 30-day grace period and alerts stop. Worth knowing before choosing a one-year term over a longer one.

Where these facts come from

Every capability on this page is taken from Verkada’s own current documentation, and the sources are listed at the foot of the page. Where we could not verify something we have left it out rather than repeat it from a brochure. SEG Core Ltd is a Verkada Gold Partner and reseller; SEGsafe is not affiliated with or operated by Verkada Inc.
