Verkada security for schools, trusts and venues — installed by The Specialist Electrical Group.

Why Verkada

The honest version, including the parts a manufacturer’s partner would normally leave out.

The short answer

Because of the console, not the camera

The hardware is good. It is not so much better than everything else that it would justify the price on its own. What justifies it is that the door, the camera, the sensor and the intercom are the same system.

In a school with a traditional set-up, a forced door is a line in an access log, and finding the footage means somebody going to a recorder, working out the time offset and exporting a file. On this platform the door event arrives with the clip attached. That difference sounds small and changes how often anybody actually looks at anything.

The second reason is multi-site. A trust with fourteen schools, or a hotel group with eleven properties, is not really buying cameras. It is buying the ability to open one browser.

Where it wins

Six genuine advantages

No recorder on site

Footage is on the camera. Nothing in a cupboard to be stolen in the break-in it was meant to record, or to flood, or to quietly stop working two years ago.

Search rather than scrub

Find a person by description, or a vehicle, across every camera at once. This is the feature people actually notice.

One console, every site

With roles that restrict properly and an audit log of who looked at what.

Updates that happen

Firmware and features are pushed rather than depending on somebody visiting with a laptop.

Long warranties

Verkada publishes warranties up to ten years depending on model; the cameras, controllers, readers, intercoms, sensors and alarm panel we typically specify state ten years on their datasheets. That changes the whole-life sum.

Sensors where cameras cannot go

The vape and air-quality sensors have no real equivalent in a conventional product range.

Specified properly

Where we design something else alongside it

A security platform is one part of a building. On most of the sites we survey there is a second system in the scope, and because we are an electrical contractor we design and install that too rather than leaving you to find somebody.

  • Site-wide voice announcement. Verkada alerts the people you name. If your plan needs a spoken instruction in every room, that is a voice-alarm or PA system and we specify it alongside — either the InformaCast integration Verkada documents, or a conventional system from our fire and life-safety side.
  • Panic and hold-up. Hardware, wired to an access controller or wireless, positioned at the desks that actually need it and tied into the same alerting.
  • Door hardware and the fire strategy. Locks, releases and green break-glass designed with your fire risk assessor, certified under the group’s NICEIC approval.
  • Containment, power and certification. The cable route, the fire-stopping and the paperwork — the part of a security job that most often goes wrong.
And what we bring

The part that is us rather than the manufacturer

An electrical contractor, not a box-shifter

Containment, cable, power, terminations and certification by our own engineers under the group’s NICEIC approval.

Fire strategy taken seriously

We install fire systems as a group, so door locking is designed with your fire risk assessor rather than around them.

DBS-checked engineers

On school sites, as standard.

A survey that can conclude ‘nothing’

We would rather lose a quotation than sell a system that sits unused.

The paperwork

DPIA starting point, signage, retention recommendation and as-fitted records.

One number afterwards

The people who surveyed it are the people who answer.

Our position with Verkada

SEG Core Ltd is a Verkada Gold Partner and reseller, supplied through the distributor Distology Ltd. Gold is one of Verkada’s four published partner tiers. SEGsafe is not affiliated with or operated by Verkada Inc., and Verkada is their trade mark.

An electrical contractor that happens to do security

SEGsafe is part of The Specialist Electrical Group. The people who install your cameras are the people who install the containment, pull the cable, terminate the power and certify the work — which is why a door interlock with the fire alarm is a conversation rather than a problem.

Start with a survey, not a quotation.

We walk the site, look at what you already have, and tell you what would genuinely help — including where the answer is that you do not need anything.
